The Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, organised by the Cervim under the patronage of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and the authorisation of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, is the only world wine competition entirely dedicated to wines produced in heroic areas.
The competition selects the best wines from extreme viticulture, with the aim of promoting and safeguarding small productions of great historical, cultural and environmental value. These are wines from indigenous vines grown on steep slopes, terraces and terraces, with high planting density and manual harvesting. The cost of cultivation can be up to ten times that of a vineyard in the plains.
The wines that achieve the highest scores are awarded the coveted medals: Grand Gold Medal, Gold Medal and Silver Medal. Special awards are also presented to the best wine and the best winery per country, the best overall wine, the best organic wine, the best small winery wine, the best young producer, the best female producer and the region with the most wines presented.
Sardinia boasts a centuries-old tradition of heroic winemaking.
