Filigheddu Estates

Filigheddu Estates is a family-owned winery founded by Salvatore Filigheddu in 2006 in Palau, a small town in the historic Gallura subregion of northern Sardinia.

Oggi l'azienda è seguita da Maria Grazia, figlia di Salvatore, che si occupa dell'amministrazione, delle vendite e in parte del vigneto.

Salvatore, on the other hand, a longtime agronomist, directs work in the vineyard and collaborates with the winemaker in the cellar.

Filigheddu Estates grows native grape varieties such as Vermentino, Bovale Sardo (Muristellu), Caricagiola and Cagnulari, employing sustainable agronomic and organic techniques for their cultivation.

The wines are the personal expression of the typicality of the territory, genuine and quality products that are largely children of the terroir to which they belong. Indeed, the hand of man in the cellar is light and careful, and never invasive.

History of Filigheddu Estates

The Filigheddu family has had close ties to the countryside for generations. In 2005 Salvatore decided to convert part of the land at Caldòsa, in the countryside of Arzachena, to vineyards, and this was the beginning of an increasingly exciting adventure.

New vineyards also sprang up in 2014 at Pulcheddu, just outside the tourist port of Palau, where an old stable was converted into a functional production cellar.

In 2017, Filigheddu Estates switched to integrated farming, and with the 2019 vintage all wines are certified organic.

For the family, quality and authenticity are inseparable. In addition to viticulture, some land has been devoted to raising beef cattle.

The Mission of Filigheddu Estates

The work of Filigheddu Estates is driven by a passion for the land and its best natural and cultural expressions. In addition to Vermentino, he is working to make more and more room for native red grape varieties.

A modern and growing company with the new plots in Pulcheddu production will increase from 12,000 to 20,000 bottles, with the creation in addition of a tasting area while in Caldòsa an old farmhouse dedicated to welcoming visitors will be renovated.

The goal is to spread the word about the wines and provide a well-integrated wine tourism experience that can allow for a pleasant and fascinating exploration of the culture and nature of Gallura.

Filigheddu Estates Vineyards

Tenute Filigheddu has 9 hectares of vineyards, divided half in Caldòsa (Arzachena) and half in Pulcheddu (Palau).

The soils are included in the Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, in fact the main grape Vermentino. In addition to this, several varieties of red grapes (Muristellu, Caricagiola and Cagnulari) are grown.

Double spur Guoyt is used as the breeding system. Organic farming method is applied, officially certified from 2019, and only products authorized by the organic regulation are used.

Vines are protected from disease through copper and sulfur-only treatments. Localized buried fertilization is carried out every two years, using organic products containing nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and microelements as well as mechanical weeding and grassing with self-seeding annual clovers.

The Territory: Gallura

Gallura is the northeastern part of Sardinia. The territory consists of two main types of natural environments. The interior is characterized by granite reliefs (such as Mount Limbara) sculpted by wind and often covered with oak trees.

The coastline is rugged, while beautiful beaches are interspersed with ochre-colored cliffs dotted with Mediterranean scrub, and there are many nearby islands such as La Maddalena and Caprera. The wind, particularly the mistral, is a typical natural element of Gallura, and its influence extends from the coast to the interior.
