Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Sperà is a white wine of the highest quality, produced exclusively from Vermentino grapes from the vineyards of the Siddùra winery in the Gallura region of Sardinia.
The soils are sandy, derived from the disintegration of granite, with an altitude of 250m above sea level. The yield per hectare is 70 quintals and the vineyards are trained by Guyot and spurred cordon, with a density of 5600 plants per hectare.
The grapes were hand-picked in small baskets and gently pressed. The must fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 12-13°C with a medium-slow fermentation. Maturation took place sur lies for several months before bottling in winter.
The colour is an inviting bright straw yellow with greenish highlights. The nose opens with delicate floral and fruity aromas reminiscent of citrus fruits, white peach and hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate it is dry, fresh and savoury, with a good structure and a pleasant savouriness balanced by a lively acidity that lends length to the aftertaste.
The proximity to the Mediterranean Sea provides a valuable mitigating influence on the climate, making it perfect for ripening grapes. The granitic soils, further refined by the mistral wind that blows constantly from the nearby coast, impart minerality and flavour to the Vermentino grapes from which this wine is made.
The name Sperà in Gallura dialect means ‘Beam of Light’, evoking the brightness and brilliance of this white wine.
Spèra also best expresses its virtues at the table, displaying a balanced savouriness and inviting acidity that make it perfect as an aperitif or to accompany fish starters, seafood, delicate first courses and baked or grilled fish.
Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Spèra is the epitome of a white wine that embodies the best characteristics of the terroir from which it comes: the Gallura region in north-eastern Sardinia.
This is an extraordinary example of how the Vermentino vine succeeds in interpreting and translating the unique characteristics of the Gallura terroir, yielding a white wine of character, pleasantness and versatile gastronomic pairing.
It should be served at a temperature of 12-13 °C and will be best appreciated within 3 years of the harvest.
