Ruju is a Sardinian myrtle liqueur made with water, sugar, alcohol, and myrtle berries from the Ogliastra (NU) area, first produced by the Liquorificio Istintosardo di Tortolì.
During the Mirto Ruju production process, gentle pressing is carried out, so that only the best part of the infusion is summerised.
Ruju Liquore of Istintosardo myrtle liqueur is violet in colour with ruby highlights. The nose offers typical myrtle aromas, with balsamic notes, underbrush and Mediterranean scrub.
In the glass a soft, less tannic taste of surprising complexity, delicate, intense, moderately astringent, with a long finish of fresh berries. The absence of aromas or colouring agents allows the liqueur to mature over time.
Producing myrtle liqueur without the addition of flavourings and colouring agents means enhancing its natural evolution: the deep purple hues typical of the berries turn to a deep red as the months go by: Ruju, in fact.
At the same time, we see a real maturing of the taste: the freshness with an astringent note typical of youth gives way to an enveloping complexity, a softness on the palate fit for meditation.
It is recommended to serve chilled if you are a lover of tradition instead cold to better capture the notes; at room temperature for a total tasting experience.
Excellent at the end of a meal, unfailingly offered to guests in the Sardinian tradition, or simply as a meditation.
Istintsardo’s myrtle Ruju was awarded the Golden Ampulla 2022 by the Spirito Autoctono 2022 guide.
