Cupanera is a still red wine Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Organic, made only from Cannonau grapes, produced by the winery Giuliana Puligheddu of Oliena in Sardinia.
The three-hectare vineyard is located in Jacu Piu in the countryside of Nuoro, originates on granite disintegration soil and was planted between 2005 and 2008 by mass selection from older vineyards in the area.
It is cultivated using the spurred cordon training system – planting spacing: m. 2.5 by 1 (4,000 plants per hectare) and m. 2.2 by 0.8 (5,681 plants per hectare). With an average yield of 30/32 quintals per hectare and a yield per stump between 600/700 grams.
Grapes are harvested by hand and placed in perforated crates of up to 20 kg, usually during the last decade of September and early October.
Winery: soft crushing, maceration in stainless steel for ten days at controlled temperature and soft pressing.
Cupanera Cannonau di Sardegna DOC, matures one year between steel and 1,000- and 600-liter oak barrels, then is further aged for a period of at least two months in the bottle.
At the table it accompanies first courses of earthy cuisine, flavorful and aged cheeses, braised meats, game, lamb and wild boar.
The wine is not subjected to filtration. It is recommended to serve at a temperature of 18 °C.
